Owned and operated by the Manchester Ship Canal Company. The Docks are equipped to handle a variety of bulk and semi-bulk cargoes, palletised etc.
The principal handling berths can take ships with cargoes up to 5000 tonnes on a maximum draught of 7 metres.
Adjacent to Runcorn Docks is Runcorn Layby which is a deepwater berth of 168m. Suitable for discharging/loading petroleum products and other approved liquids in bulk. There are pipelines to adjacent storage facilities and is also connected to the Ineos Chlor network in the Runcorn area. Certain bulk dry cargoes can also be accommodated on a 'self discharge' basis.
Next to Runcorn Layby is Runcorn Saltworks, operated by Salt Union Ltd and is primarily used to load salt, in bulk, by means of conveyor/loading arm.
