Glasgow Harbour will have car and public transport routes on site, but is intended to be extremely pedestrian and cyclist-friendly.

Partick Interchange – with bus, train and underground connections – is about 5 minutes walk away.

Extensive infrastructure improvements and road works are currently underway in the west of Glasgow as part of the Glasgow Harbour development.

These improvements will create better access to Glasgow Harbour and the Clyde and Kelvin waterfronts, create connections between the local communities, and relieve current traffic congestion in the area.  Included within these works will be improved, safe and comfortable pedestrian and cyclist access both to the waterfront and to the public transport services provided by Partick Interchange.

The completed development will provide a pleasant and green environment which is a asset to Glasgow, and which will be used not only by the people who live, work and visit Glasgow Harbour, but also by the local people within Broomhill, Thornwood, Partick, Whiteinch and the West End, as well as the city as a whole.

An important aspect of the development is the large areas of public space it will contain, most notably an 11-acre public park and the main cycle and pedestrian route within the site – approximately 3km of 8-10 metre wide, granite-paved riverside walk and cycle way along the Clyde and Kelvin waterfront.  This is being constructed in phases in tandem with the development, and the first phase – which is by the first phase housing – is already in place and open to the public.

In addition to this riverside route, the development will provide a considerable number of cycle and pedestrian routes through and along the development, in a safe and high quality setting.  These routes will connect with others on the north bank of the Clyde, leading into the city centre.

In order to maintain cycle access during development works, we have had to make amendments to a section of the current Clyde and Loch Lomond Cycleway in the Castlebank area of Glasgow.

This particular diversion was chosen following consultation with both Glasgow City Council and Sustrans.  As well as allowing us to minimise short-term disruption, this route is considered the most direct and comfortable of the options available.  The diversion is finished to extremely high quality standards, and will be in place until the road works are completed, which is anticipated to be late 2007.

As work continues on the site, we will continue to liase with Glasgow City Council and Sustrans on cyclist issues, and also to continue to circulate informationvia this website and our regular newsletters.
